What: The Sol LeWitt Wall Drawing Retrospective will feature over 100 wall drawings spanning the career of Sol LeWitt, among the central figures of the Conceptual and Minimal Art movements of the late 20th century. Installed in a three story, 27,000 SF mill building renovated specifically for this project, the exhibition is a collaborative venture between the LeWitt studio, the Yale University Art Gallery, Williams College Museum of Art , and MASS MoCA.
When: Construction is underway now. The building renovation will be completed in March 2008. Beginning in April 2008, 20 artists and professional installers from the LeWitt studio will join forces with some 40 apprentice interns to execute the works according to LeWitt’s instructions. The work will take approximately 6 months, and the opening date of the exhibition is scheduled for November 16th, 2008.
More than 100 wall drawings? Yes, over 100 drawings, covering nearly an acre, and stretching out over one half mile in length. |
